The Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker is built for one job: drip coffee that tastes like a careful pour-over, without you standing at the counter with a gooseneck kettle and a timer. It brews anything from a single cup to a full 10-cup carafe, lets you set temperature, bloom and pulses, and can have coffee ready the moment you walk into the kitchen.

  • One machine, 1 to 10 cups: a cone basket for small brews and a flat-bottom basket for full batches.
  • Pour-over style control: adjustable brew temperature, bloom, pulses and ratio, or one-button brewing with built-in roast profiles.
  • Wake up to coffee: on-machine scheduling, a full-color screen and an optional app for profiles and updates.

The Problem the Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker Solves

Most drip machines dump water at one fixed temperature through a single spout, and you get whatever cup comes out. If you buy good beans, that’s frustrating: light roasts taste sour, dark roasts taste bitter, and a two-cup brew in a 12-cup machine comes out thin. The usual fix is manual pour-over, which works beautifully but takes your full attention every single morning.

Aiden sits in between. It copies the steps a barista follows by hand (a hot bloom to wet the grounds, then measured pulses of water at a set temperature) and runs them automatically. You choose how much control you want: press one button, or tune every step and save it as a profile.

Key Features and What They Mean for You

Two baskets: a single cup or a full carafe

This is the feature that separates Aiden from most batch brewers. A green single-serve basket takes a standard #2 cone filter and handles brews of 450 ml (about 3 cups) or less. A blue batch basket takes 8–12 cup flat-bottom filters for anything bigger, up to the 1.5-liter maximum. A dual showerhead switches between one spray pattern for the cone and a wider one for the batch basket, so the water lands where the coffee actually is.

So what? If you live alone, or one person in the house drinks coffee on weekdays and everyone drinks it on weekends, you don’t need two machines. A small morning mug doesn’t come out weak just because the brewer was designed for a crowd.

Temperature, bloom and pulses you can actually change

The spec sheet lists a brew temperature range of 122–210°F, with a default of 205°F (96°C). Fellow says the heater uses technology from its Stagg EKG kettle line, and coverage of the launch describes a thick-film heater that can shift temperature between pulses. In a custom profile you can set the bloom ratio, bloom time and bloom temperature, the number of pulses, the gap between pulses, and the coffee-to-water ratio.

Why it matters: lighter roasts usually extract better with hotter water, darker roasts with slightly cooler water. On a basic machine you can only change the grind and the dose. Here, if a bag tastes bitter, you can drop the temperature or shorten the bloom instead of guessing.

One-button brewing, Guided Brew and shared profiles

You don’t have to touch any of those settings. Aiden ships with built-in profiles by roast level, and Guided Brew asks for your roast and cup count, then sets the recipe for you. A full-color LCD and a single dial walk you through menus and show each brew stage as it happens.

The Fellow app (iOS and Android) adds roaster-recommended recipes and profile sharing, and profiles for Fellow Drops coffees sync automatically. If you buy from a roaster who publishes an Aiden profile, you can brew their bag the way they intended without working it out yourself.

Scheduled brewing

You set a “ready” time, a profile, a water amount and how often it repeats (once, daily or a custom pattern), and Aiden times the brew to finish at that moment. It’s the classic drip-machine convenience, but with the bloom and pulse recipe intact. One practical note from Fellow’s own manual: the clock needs to be set (and reset if the machine has been unplugged for a long time) for schedules to fire.

Cold brew in about 90 minutes

Traditional cold brew steeps for 12 to 24 hours. Aiden’s built-in cold brew profile uses a hot bloom followed by a slow drip, and Fellow says it’s ready in 90 minutes. TechRadar reported 1.5 to 2 hours depending on quantity. The batch basket takes up to 110 g of coffee for cold brew, so you can make a full carafe and keep it in the fridge.

Thermal carafe and a basket that doesn’t drip

Coffee goes into a double-wall stainless steel carafe instead of sitting on a hot plate, which avoids the burnt, stewed taste a warming plate gives coffee after an hour. The filter basket stops dripping when you remove it, and brewing pauses if you pull the carafe or open the filter lid, then resumes when you put it back.

What you need to use it

  • Ground coffee or a grinder. Aiden has no built-in grinder. A burr grinder makes the biggest difference to how precise brewing tastes; our coffee grinder for French press guide covers burr grinders with a wide grind range.
  • Two filter sizes. #2 cones for small brews and 8–12 cup basket filters for batches. Fellow includes 15 of each to start.
  • A kitchen scale (recommended). Profiles are built around grams and ratios, so weighing your dose gets you the result the profile was designed for.
  • Wi-Fi only for extras. The machine brews without the app. Wi-Fi is needed for app scheduling, remote settings, sharing profiles and firmware updates.
  • Room under the cabinet. At 12 inches tall, it’s built to fit under most standard upper cabinets.

Real-Life Use Cases

The solo weekday drinker. If you make one large mug before work, the cone basket and a schedule mean a fresh single cup is ready at 6:30 without brewing a pot you’ll pour away.

The specialty-bean household. If you buy light roasts from local roasters and they keep coming out sour in a basic machine, the adjustable temperature and roaster-shared profiles give you real levers to pull.

The weekend host. Switch to the batch basket, brew a full carafe for guests, and the thermal carafe goes straight to the table. On a hot day, the cold brew profile turns a morning batch into iced coffee by lunch.

Good to Know Before You Buy

  • No hot plate. Fellow says the carafe keeps coffee warm for hours, but outside coverage disagrees on how long. TechRadar noted that a four-cup batch cooled noticeably within about half an hour, and Engadget pointed out that the carafe lid doesn’t fully seal. If you sip slowly over a long morning, plan to pre-heat the carafe or pour into an insulated mug.
  • Two kinds of filters to keep stocked. It’s a small thing, but you’ll be buying cones and basket filters.
  • Only the baskets are dishwasher-safe. The carafe, water tank and body are hand-wash or wipe-clean only. The carafe also contains a magnet, so keep it off electronic scales.
  • Descaling is part of the routine. Fellow’s manual recommends descaling every three months, and the machine shows a reminder.
  • It isn’t silent. Fellow describes brewing as nearly silent, while TechRadar measured peaks of about 59 dB during the pulse phase.
  • It’s a premium drip coffee maker. If you only ever press one button and never change a setting, a simpler, cheaper drip machine will make similar coffee. And if you mostly drink lattes, look at our espresso machine for latte picks instead.

What’s in the Box and Warranty

Fellow lists the brewer with its thermal carafe, both brew baskets, 15 cone filters and 15 flat-bottom filters, plus a Get to Know You guide and safety manual. The standard warranty is two years, and Fellow’s launch announcement said registering the product extends it to three years. Check Fellow’s registration page for the current terms.

On the certification side, Fellow says Aiden is officially SCA Certified, meaning it meets the Specialty Coffee Association’s Golden Cup benchmarks for water temperature, brew time and consistency.

Fellow Aiden FAQ

Does the Fellow Aiden need Wi-Fi or the app to work?

No. Fellow says Aiden works without the app, and you can create brew profiles on the machine itself. You need the app (and Wi-Fi) to schedule from your phone, share or receive profiles, and install firmware updates, which Fellow recommends.

How do you descale the Fellow Aiden?

Go to Settings › Maintenance › Descale and follow the prompts. The cycle takes about 30 minutes. Use a phosphate-free liquid descaler (not vinegar), then run three brew cycles with water only. Fellow’s manual suggests doing this every three months, and the machine reminds you when it’s due.

Can the Fellow Aiden brew just one cup?

Yes. Use the green single-serve basket with a #2 cone filter and set the showerhead to the single-serve position. It’s designed for brews of 450 ml (about 3 cups) or less.

Does the Fellow Aiden have a hot plate?

No. Coffee goes into a double-wall thermal carafe instead. That avoids the burnt taste of a warming plate, but how long it stays hot depends on batch size and room temperature. Pre-heating the carafe with hot water helps.

Can the Fellow Aiden make cold brew?

Yes. Choose Cold Brew in Guided Brew. It uses a hot bloom and a slow drip, and Fellow says it’s ready in about 90 minutes. Use the blue batch basket with a large paper filter and up to 110 g of coffee.

Is the Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker Right for You?

If you want pour-over flavor from one cup to a full carafe, on a schedule, without the kettle-and-timer routine, the Fellow Aiden Precision Coffee Maker is built exactly for that.
